Tough Love

Romans 13:9-10 AMP

The commandments, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not

 kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet (have an evil desire), and any other

 commandment, are summed up in the single command, You shall love your neighbor as[you do] yourself.   Love does no wrong to one’s neighbor [it never hurts

 anybody]. Therefore love meets all the requirements  and  is

 the fulfilling of the Law.

It is easy to show love when we want to and to love the ones we want to love, but this is not the sort of love that God is unveiling here, it's certainly  not the love of convenience. John 15:13 and 1John 3:16 tells us of a sacrificial love to friends, the brethren and our neighbour (by interpretation everyone we come accross should be seen as neighbour in some way);

John 15:13 AMP - No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.

Jesus sacrificed his life on the cross for us and this is the kind of tough enduring love that God recomends to every believer; being able to show love to the hard to love, the never loved and even our enemies.

1 John 3:16 AMP - By this we come to know (progressively to recognize, to perceive, to understand) the [essential] love: that He laid down His [own] life for

us; and we ought to lay [our] lives down for [those who are our] brothers [in

Him].

So let us ask for the grace to live out this kind of love that we commonly  refer to as Agape love, when this love in us expresses  itself, it will be easy not to lie or covet or hate our neighbour; the fruit of the spirit will show fort easily in our lives, the pride of life and disregard for the a fellow human being (neighbour) will totally disappear. Galatians 3:19 - 22.
